We are looking to build relationships and partnerships with nonprofit organizations who align with our philanthropic priorities in areas where Sompo has employees and customers. Our tiered level of support allows us to have in depth, collaborative relationships with a select number of organizations (strategic investment partners), while our competitive grant program allows for smaller, localized nonprofit organizations to apply for support.
Grant requests should range from $10,000 to $100,000 USD, with an option to indicate that the request is part of a larger fundraising goal. Each grant and funding opportunity will be considered independently, in alignment with Foundation priorities and goals.
The Sompo Foundation will prioritize support of activities in geographies where Sompo employees and customers live and work. Candidates from the following areas are welcome to apply:
- Asia Pacific
- Bermuda
- Brazil
- Europe
- North America
- United Kingdom
Each applicant is required to indicate how they will identify and measure success. At the end of each calendar year of support, funded partners must complete an impact report containing information required by the Sompo Foundation, as well an individual narrative describing program accomplishments and learning opportunities. Impact reports will be emailed directly to the Sompo Foundation Executive Director at an established time period.
- Direct alignment with Sompo Foundation priorities
- Successful completion of the Sompo Foundation grant application, including submission of required documents
- Strong project budget and budget justification
- Demonstrated financial stability
- Demonstration of past success and impact
- Leadership is strong and demonstrates longevity and commitment to the organization and cause
- Geographic alignment – we support organizations serving communities where Sompo employees and customers live and work
- Nonprofits must be in good standing with their country’s governing bodies (ex. IRS)
- Nonprofits must be free from reputational issues and challenges
- Adherence to our nondiscrimination policy
Our standard grant period is one year. For flexibility of project and intended impact, we will consider projects that span multiple years on a case by case basis.
The Sompo Foundation will make these determinations on an individual funding basis. Applications must be submitted each year, unless previously determined.
